About Me
Hi there, I’m Catherine. The basics? I am a senior at California State University, San Marcos. I am currently studying communication and am particularly interested in public relations, event planning, social media and production.

It has always been challenging for me to choose just one thing to be interested in as I believe we all have several passions, talents and creative abilities to be shared. Starting from a young age, I was always curious about people and how they connect through different life experiences. Throughout my time in high school, I held numerous leadership positions as well as attended several leadership based seminars, which is what sparked my interest in communication. These early experiences provided me with confidence in communicating my thoughts and ideas to all kinds of people both professionally and personally.
With my love for meeting new people and my curiosity about the world, I decided to hop on a plane and live like an Italian for five months (see for more!). Throughout my time in Europe, I discovered an entirely new version of myself. I began to figure out who I was without being surrounded by my familiar environment. This taught me how to be strong and self-assured in times of doubt and unfamiliarity.
Being back in the United States has inspired me to dig deeper into my passions and not be afraid of rejection or making mistakes. Through that discovery, I was fortunate enough to land an internship with San Diego Magazine as their Events and Social Media Intern as well as become a Study Abroad Ambassdor on my college campus.
I am always interested in a new challenge! Reach out to catherinerollins6@gmail.com to connect.

I was fortunate enough to spend a semester in Rome, Italy where I learned more about myself and the world than I ever thought possible. Coming from an Italian background really inspired me to learn more about my culture as it related to the language, the food and the everyday way of life. Having the opportunity to study while also seeing the world gave me a unique perspective on how the idea of learning is way more complex than a textbook could ever provide.
The personal skills I learned while living in Europe are some that I believe will always stay with me. I learned to love what I do not quite understand. Often times, our first reaction to something that is unusual to us is to run away from it. One of the first meals I ordered in Italy turned out to be stomach, because I did not translate the menu correctly. I could have been angry, but then I realized I was eating dinner in Florence, Italy and had nothing to actually be upset about. I learned to become curious instead of judgmental, and to love and accept the unknown. I learned to value impermanence and to “live in the moment”, as clique as that sounds. I remember one day, I went to have a solo picnic at the Villa Borghese Garden and I just sat there and reflected, realizing how special that moment was. While it is likely that I will return to that garden, I will never be there in the same way that I was in that moment.
I learned to stay calm in moments of uncertainty. Whether it was getting my phone pick- pocketed in Paris, or losing my credit card in Greece, I learned to stop, take a deep breath, and get resourceful. Lost? Ask a friendly local! Miss your flight? Hop on the next one. Offended someone? Think back to what you said, and ask for help in learning how to express your idea respectfully. Now, when I am confronted with a frustrating or even intimidating situation, I am composed because I know that I can find the resources to fix my situation. The world has stunning depth and so much more to offer than we could ever know.
Since returning from Rome, I was chosen to represent my study abroad program at California Sate University San Marcos, where I plan and conduct classroom presentations and information sessions to prospective students. This has allowed me to create a conversation to students about the importance adaptability, curiosity and stepping into the unknown.
